Meet the Large Breast Assessment Team

This site is led and medically reviewed by Tongchun Mao, MD, who performs breast reduction and body contouring surgery here and who is responsible for the medical content. The other three physicians contribute what this assessment often needs: the center’s surgical standards and revision experience, the dermatologic treatment of the skin in the fold, and the assessment of the skin envelope and how it will behave over time.

Tongchun Mao

Tongchun Mao (毛彤春)

Deputy Director & Head of Aesthetic Surgery · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending · Lead Physician of This Site

Breast reduction and breast and body contouring · load and symptom assessment · skin and fold management

Dr. Tongchun Mao is an aesthetic surgeon at Chongqing West District Hospital, where he is Deputy Director and Head of Aesthetic Surgery in its Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center and the responsible physician for this site. He personally performs more than 700 operations a year, within hospital standards of assessment, anaesthesia and follow-up.

On this site his part is the assessment of the load rather than of the size. He takes the symptom history before measuring anything, examines the neck, shoulders, upper back and the skin in the fold, records the frame the breast sits on, and treats weight that is still moving as a reason to wait rather than a detail. Where the symptoms are manageable without an operation he says so, and where a breast is largely glandular rather than fatty he says that weight loss will not do what the patient is hoping for.

Clinical focus

  • Breast assessment built on symptoms, load and the frame it sits on
  • Skin and fold management before any operation is considered
  • Weight stability and timing as a prerequisite for reduction surgery
  • Breast reduction, and the trade-offs it carries in scars and sensation
  • Revision assessment when a previous reduction has left a problem

The frame explains the symptoms

The same volume of breast tissue on a narrow chest wall loads the neck and back far more than it does on a wide one, because the weight sits further from the spine. Two women with the same size can therefore have entirely different symptoms, and the frame measurement is part of the assessment rather than an afterthought.

Shaoliang Wang

Shaoliang Wang (王韶亮)

Director, Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center · Vice Chief Physician, Associate Professor, Doctor of Medicine

Center leadership · surgical standards and complex revision

Dr. Shaoliang Wang is Director of the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team he provides the surgical perspective and the tertiary-hospital backstop — the assessment when an operation is the honest answer, and the hospital-level care for the rare complication that needs it.

Within this site his part is the standard a plan has to meet and the backstop behind it. Patients who arrive with a problem after a reduction performed elsewhere are usually assessed within his part of the service.

Clinical focus

  • Center leadership and multidisciplinary case review
  • Surgical assessment when an operation is the honest answer to descent or excess skin
  • Hospital-based care for the rare complication that needs theatre-level management
Ke He

Ke He (何锞)

Deputy Director & Head of Skin & Laser Aesthetics · Attending Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Skin and laser aesthetics · the skin in the fold

Dr. Ke He is Deputy Director and head of skin and laser aesthetics within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team her role is the device and injectable assessment, and the honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle.

Within this site her part is the skin under the breast: the rash, the maceration and the irritation that a heavy breast produces, and the treatment that has to succeed before an operation can safely be planned.

Clinical focus

  • Device and injectable assessment before any treatment plan
  • Staged planning judged against standardised photographs
  • Honest referral when a problem needs an operation rather than a needle
Yongbo Jia

Yongbo Jia (贾勇波)

Deputy Director & Head of Dermatology · Vice Chief Physician, Licensed Aesthetic Attending

Dermatology · inflammatory and infective skin disease

Dr. Yongbo Jia is a dermatologist within the Plastic Surgery & Aesthetics Medical Center at Chongqing West District Hospital. Within the team his role is medical skin assessment — diagnosing and managing pigment and barrier conditions, and treating skin that a device or an injection has irritated.

Within this site his part is the fold that is inflamed, infected or has broken down, and the skin conditions that mimic it. That diagnosis comes before any plan about size, because operating through inflamed skin heals badly.

Clinical focus

  • Medical skin assessment behind injectable treatment plans
  • Diagnosis and management of pigment and barrier conditions
  • Dermatologic care of skin after irritation or a delayed reaction

Start with the symptoms, not with surgery

Arrange an assessment. We will establish what is driving your symptoms, explain what support, strength work and skin care can achieve, and set out what an operation would and would not change.
