If the change is rapid, one-sided, or the skin has broken down

Do not wait for a routine cosmetic appointment. Growth over weeks or months, growth on one side only, a lump you can feel, pain in one breast, or skin under the breast that has ulcerated or become infected needs diagnostic assessment, and that assessment comes before any conversation about reducing the breast.

Arranging an ordinary assessment

Where the size has been stable and the question is about symptoms, appointments are made through the hospital outpatient line or through the appointment service described on the appointments page. Say that you are asking about symptoms from the weight of the breasts so that the right clinic time is booked. If you are travelling from outside Chongqing, say so when you book, because the assessment and any imaging can sometimes be arranged together in fewer visits.

What to bring

Bring any previous breast imaging and its reports, records of any earlier breast surgery, a list of your current medicines and allergies, and the names of any conditions you are being treated for. If you can, note down which symptoms you have and how often they occur, because the symptom history is what the plan is built around. Mention any family history of breast or ovarian cancer.

What happens at the consultation

Expect an examination rather than a presentation, and expect questions about your neck, shoulders, back and sleep before any measurement of the breast itself. Your weight and its trend will be discussed, the skin in the fold will be examined, and the frame the breast sits on will be recorded. You should leave knowing what is driving the symptoms, what can be done without an operation, and what an operation would and would not change.
